Draw to Explore
At Fiasco we recently designed a graphic print to celebrate our love of drawing. It soon spiraled into a whole other project all together. Follow our Tumblr on fiascodesign.tumblr.com to see what people send us and sign up to receive a postcard yourself!
You can also find the print that inspired the project here on the Fiasco website.

Here’s a promotional video summing up the one_dot_zero_Cascade 2011 event. A nice chance for me to look back on the experience before Team If begins thinking about the best way to put the funding to use. Watch this space for more on that. Those soon-to-be graduates reading should check IdeasTap and the one_dot_zero_Cascade site for future applications.

Onedotzero_cascade at BFI Southbank
Last week saw the onedotzero_cascade teams presenting their work at the BFI Southbank centre in front of industry panelists and I am delighted to say that Team If were one of the two teams awared IdeasTap funding! As the last minute preparations of our own team came together nicely it was also fascinating to finally hear what the other teams of graduates had come up with. Presentations over,...

Some thoughts on Creative Collaboration
Working together creatively One of the most important things I have learned from the past week is that you can encourage collaborative creation even in a group of people who have little in common and no time to get to know each other. What a powerful thing that is to believe. Knowing this blows creative possibilities wide open for those who are stuck or stunted. Forward is not necessarily ...

My 5 days in London are over. And now Team If looks forward to November’s one_dot_zero festival at the BFI where we will be presenting our little baby ideas to a larger audience with the possibility of funding. With a little more development work to be done, you can follow our progress at http://ifcascade.wordpress.com as we prepare for our presentations.
Given such a short time to choose...

I found out today that I have been selected as one of forty graduates to take part in One_Dot_Zero Cascade, a week-long workshop of inter-disciplinary collaboration and learning in London. All applications were handled through IdeasTap, which was a great introduction to the interesting briefs they publish. I’m looking forward to a weeks worth of new everything — from new thinking to new...

Principles
What follows is an explanation of what is posted on this blog. In this post I wish to establish for myself some principles of interest and make concrete statements of belief thereby explaining my attitudes and understanding of the things that I post here.
Information
This is the blog of graphic designer Tom Morris. It serves me as a journal and archive of thoughts on design, art, creativity and...

Design as Art
Full of interesting Ideas, I found myself revisiting this book recently. First published in 1971 it’s fresh feeling can’t all be down to it’s cover reworking for Penguin Classics.
“Anyone who uses a properly designed object feels the presence of an artist who has worked for him, bettering his living conditions and encouraging him to develop his taste and sense of...

Engaged Design and Jan van Toorn.
Unfamiliar with his work, I was intrigued by this article by Rick Poynor on the influence and work of Dutch graphic designer Jan van Toorn. A proponent of “arguing with visual means,” his work has a focus on critical analysis, dialogue between the disciplines, and the exploration of ideas. I was particularly interested though by his expectations of audiences. Poynor describes...

Future Developments
With my time at Black Dog Publishing over I am conducting a few freelance projects, while I look for other opportunities. This week I had an interview for Computer Arts magazine in Bath, which is keeping me on my toes thinking about the future of my portfolio. Of course I’ll make a post here about the outcome. In other news, for a while now I have been consolidating my work for the web so...

I have begun freelance work for Black Dog Publishing in London, which has been a lot of fun and looks set to last for the next few weeks. Working on books for Kenneth Grange of Pentagram and a book about interesting facts, I have begun to explore much more illustrative work lately and I look forward to seeing how I can develop my love for collage and simplifying life.
